I love flooring. I started my flooring career twenty-one years ago. I remember the first six months being brutal. So much to learn and understand. In those days, carpet and sheet vinyl were at the top. Wood was an occasional sale and ceramic bathroom floors became more popular. Today, luxury vinyl plank is my number one seller. Custom ceramic bathrooms are a close second. As with fashion, home decor changes very quickly. I understand why my clients love LVP. There are many applications that LVP is perfect for kids, dogs, heavy traffic, and budget. LVP exploded about ten years ago, just as laminate did twenty years prior.
It saddens me to see how wood floors have been pushed to the side for today's generation of new homeowners. They get a bad rep. Scratches, for example, are not good for kids, pets, or the cost. Not true! Does hardwood cost more? Yes, but it is a valuable return on your investment. You will get every penny and more back when and if you sell. Adds monetary value when LVP doesn’t and will stand the test of time. Today, pre-finished wood floors have scratch-resistant finishing. As well as withstanding high traffic, kids, and pets. Builders have convinced clients that their $800,000.00 new home should have LVP. Ten years ago, all high-end homes had nothing but wood. I just got back from Germany and visited castles that were centuries old, All still embracing the original hardwood, and are beautiful. Don't misunderstand, I like LVP. I have it in my basement, and it works perfectly down there. I recommend LVP all the time. In most cases, it just makes sense. I would be happy to discuss the pros and cons of any floor.
